Andinobates viridisMyers & Daly, 1976 - Colombia

Description

Very small species, slightly granular skin of dark green or metallic green, more granular in its belly and legs, almost smooth back skin. Belly slightly lighter and more metallic than the back, only the palms and plants are black, without stripes. Canthus rostralis round, Tympanum oval, Omosternum present, teeth absent, first finger very short, only measures half of the second finger.

Diagnosis

Due to its dark green or metallic green color and without the stripes or tactile points of Andinobates fulguritus it can not be confused with any other species in Colombia. It is distinguished from Andinobates altobueyensis by its green rather than yellow color and by its shorter first finger. It differs from Epipedobates narinensis In that the lateral line, ventrolateral line from the lip to the groin are absent.

Size

Adult males are in a range to 14.0 mm snout-cloaca and females measure 14.7 - 15.2 mm snout-cloaca.

Sexual dimorphism

A male differs from a female by being slightly smaller and thinner.

Natural history

Not much is known about that species. It is a diurnal frog and is found in the leaflitter and in bromeliads. They live in primary and secondary forests both in lowland and mountain rainforests. It lives sympatric with Oophaga lehmanni and according to the description is less abundant than this species. The tadpoles presumably are deposited in bromeliads.

Geografic distribution

It is distributed in Colombia, Cauca and Valle del Cauca in an altitude of 100-1200 msnm.

Descripción

Especie muy pequeña, piel ligeramente granulada de color verde oscuro o verde metálico, más granulada en su vientre y piernas, piel de la espalda casi lisa. Vientre ligeramente más claro y más métalico que el dorso, solo las manos y los pies son de color negro, sin rayas. Canthus rostralis redondo, tímpano oval, Omosternum presente, dientes ausente; primer dedo de las manos muy corto, solo mide la mitad del segundo dedo.

Diagnosis

Por a su color de verde oscuro o verde metálico y sin las rayas o puntos típicos de Andinobates fulguritus no se puede confundir con ninguna otra especie en Colombia. Se distingue de Andinobates altobueyensis por su color verde en lugar de amarillo y por el primer dedo de la mano más corto. Se distingue de Epipedobates narinensis por no presentar la línea lateral y ventrolateral.

Tamaño

Los machos adultos se encuentran en un rango de hasta 14.0 mm hocico-cloaca y las hembras miden 14.7 - 15.2 mm hocico-cloaca.

Diferencias sexuales

Machos se diferencian de las hembras por su cuerpo ligeramente más pequeño y delgado.

Historia natural

Es una pequeña especie de rana con actividad díurna; pueden ser observadas sobre la hojarasca y en las bromelias. Viven en bosques primarios y secundarios tanto en bosques lluviosos de tierras bajas como de montaña. Viven en simpátria con Oophaga lehmanni, pero son menos abundantes. Los renacuajos se depositan en fitotelmatas que pueden ser las bromelias donde suelen ser observadas.

Beschreibung

Sehr kleine Arte, leicht granulierte Haut, an Bauch und Beinen etwas stärker granuliert, Rückenhaut fast glatt, dunkel grün oder metallisch grün. Bauch etwas heller und metallischer gefärbt, als auf dem Rücken, nur die Handflächen und Fußsohlen sind schwarz, keine Streifen. Canthus rostralis rund, ovales Tympanum, Omosternum vorhanden, Zähne fehlen, erste Finger sehr kurz ist, nur halb solang wie der zweite Finger.

Diagnose

Durch seine komplett grüne oder metallisch grüne Farbe und ohne die für Andinobates fulguritus typischen Streifen oder Punkte mit keiner anderen Andinobatesart in Kolumbien zu verwechseln. Sie unterscheidet sich von Epipedobates narinensis durch das fehlen der Streifen in den Weichen und der Oberlippe. Es unterscheidet sich von Epipedobates narinensis durch die fehlende seitliche Linie, ventrolaterale Linie von der Lippe zur Leiste.

Größe

Erwachsene Männchen erreichen bis 14.0 mm, Weibchen 14.7 - 15.2 mm.

Geschlechtsunterschiede

Männchen unterscheiden sich von den Weibchen durch den etwas kleineren, schlankeren Körper.

Lebensweise

Über diese Art ist nicht viel bekannt. Sie ist tagaktiv und man findet sie in der Laubschicht und in Bromelien. Sie leben in Primär- und Sekundärwäldern sowohl in tiefland- als auch in Bergregenwäldern. Sie lebt sympatrisch mit Oophaga lehmanni und laut der Beschreibung ist sie weniger häufig als diese Art. Die Kaulquappen werden vermutlich in Bromelien gebracht.

Diese Art Kolumbien, Cauca und Valle del Cauca in einem Höhenbereich von 100-1200m verbreitet.
